Halloween in Japan is slightly different to overseas and has become established as an event in which people enjoy a variety of “costume play”. The attraction of this is that it can be enjoyed both by people participating in the “costume play” and those watching it.

In the Tokyo area, in particular, events are held every year in October in various areas. On this occasion, I would like to introduce you to various recommended Halloween events in the Tokyo area.

Kawasaki Halloween 2019

This has been held every year since 1997, and this year is the 23rd such event. In this year’s “Halloween Parade”, the group of artists “Tokyo Gegegay”, who are active around the world, shall appear and all six lanes of Shinkawa-dori that make up the course, which is a total length of 1.7km, shall be closed, allowing a large number of participants decked out in a wide variety of highly individualistic costumes to gather from all around the country, and dance and walk along the route. Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival 2019

This is a Halloween event in which more than 20,000 “Costume play” fans participate every year. A variety of events aimed at participants are prepared every year, such as “Ikeharo tea party”, “Costume play arm wrestling”, and “niconico cospllection” interactive events. Many famous “Costume players” participate. This event is recommended for “Costume players”, “Costume play fans”, and those who like animation and manga comics.

SHIBUYA HALLOWEEN PROJECT 2019 for Adults

This is a Halloween event for those who want to enjoy Halloween with their friends while drinking alcohol. This includes a “Halloween food grand prix” and “Dress-up contest”. In the “Halloween food grand prix”, food & drink tickets are sold at 2 for 500 yen, meaning that you can effectively eat authentic Halloween sweets for 250 yen per item. In the “Dress-up contest”, 10 groups that pass the qualifying tournament on the day battle it out in the final. Each group performs on the stage. This is an event aimed at adults.

Harajuku Omotesando Halloween Pumpkin Parade 2019

This Halloween event held the first dress-up parade in Japan and this year will be the 37th year. Every year, more than 1000 children and their guardians dress up and participate in a parade only the 1km of Harajuku Omotesando. Stores around the area provide special Halloween menus, and an “O-kashi rally” is held, in which sweets are given out to children. This is an event that can be enjoyed by both parents and children.

Noge Halloween 2019

This is a Halloween event in which you eat, drink, and enjoy the town of Noge to the full. This is an event recommended for people who enjoy drinking alcohol.
